Sur Sarovar (Keetham Lake) (23 kms.)

Fatehpur Sikri (39 kms.)

An epic in red sandstone. A city of yesteryears, today lost in the mists of time. Fatehpur Sikri was built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar during 1564 A.D. A sonless Akbar had gone to Sikri to seek blessings of a muslim saint Sheikh Salim Chisti. When his son was finally born, he in gratitude, constructed his capital city and named it Fatehpur Sikri. Later, due to shortage of water and unrest in north-west, Akbar had to abandon this city. The beautiful marble tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti still attracts thousands who seek blessings of the revered saint. Other renowned places are Diwan-i-Am, Diwan-i-Khaas, Buland Darwaza, Panch Mahal, Jodha Bai's Palace and Birbal Bhavan. Open : Sunrise to sunset. Entry fee Rs.0.50.

Bharatpur Bird Santuary (60 kms.)

A paradise for bird-watchers and ornithologists, it is now known as Keoladeo Ghana National Park. More than 300 species of birds have been sighted here including the famous Siberian Cranes and other birds from China and Northern Europe. Season: October to February.

Brij Bhoomi (56 kms.)

Just an hours drive from Agra, on the banks of the Yamuna, is situtated this birthplace of Lord Krishna. The entire land is dotted with magnificent temples, each dedicated to various aspects of His life & loves.

The twin cities of Mathura and Vrindavan, where He was born and where He grew up, still resound to the sounds of His laughter, antics and His magical flute.

Some of the more famous temples are: Govind Dev Temple, Rangaji Temple, Dwarkadhish Temple, Bankey Behari Temple and the ISKCON Temple.Gokul, Barsana and Goverdhan are the other townships associated with the legend of Lord Krishna. Gokul is the hideout where Lord Krishna was secretly brought up-away from the eyes of His maternal uncle, Kansa. His consort Radha belonged to Barsana, where the Holi festival lathamar Holi' is celebrated with great gusto. At Govardhan, Krishna raised a mighty mountain on His little finger to protect the locals frnm the wrath of rain-god Indra.

Van Vihar Wildlife Sanctuary (60 kms.) in Dholpur Distt. (Rajasthan) :

This picturesque forest reserve spread over 52 sq. kms. abounds in many species of wildlife including birds.

Gwalior (118 kms.) :

Capital city of the Scindia Marathas. Gwalior is most renowned for its majestic fort which is built on an imposing hillock. On the way to the fort are huge Jain statues carved in rocks. The fort has many historical buildings.

Aligarh is famous for its Muslim University, founded by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in the 19th century A.D., and also for its handicrafts-specially brassware.
