Assam Eco Adventure

Eco Adventure in AssamGreat outdoors and a pleasant climate welcome you to this enchanting land of rolling plains, lofty hills, forests and turbulent rivers. Go angling, rafting or kayaking on a network of challenging rivers here. Absorb the picturesque locales as you trek, parasail, scale stubborn rocks or watch birds. And while you are at it, enjoy life in tea estates and oil installations with their breath-taking golf courses and polo grounds.

Eco-Camp
Angling is great fun at Bhalukpong Eco-Camp. Catch the playful trout or golden mahseer, a fierce game fish, in the Jia-Bhoroli river flowing through the Bhalukpong reserve. Go rafting, trekking, bird-watching, trek to a hot spring nearby. Visit the adjacent Nameri National Park and the orchidarium at Tipi, 5km away in Arunachal Pradesh.

When to go : November to April
How to get there: Bhalukpong is 250 km from Guwahati and is well connected by road. Tezpur, 65km away, has an airport.

What to wear : Cotton in summer & woolen in winter are recommended. Tourists are also advised to take mosquito repellants along.

Rukmini Island
This river island near Dibrugarh is a nature lover's exclusive retreat with a beautiful view of the outer Himalayas. Beautiful migratory birds descend on the shimmering water and endangered dolphins pop out to greet you here. Just leave your worries behind and enjoy country-boating, water-scootering, hack ride, kayaking, parasailing, ski boarding, water sking and angling here.

Golf
Tee off in style in the magnificent tea estates with their picturesque golf courses. All golf courses in Assam have nine holes except for Digboi (run by the world's oldest operational refinery), which has an 18-hole course.

Angling
An annual angling competition is regularly organized by the Assam Bhoroli Anglers' Association annually in November in Jia-Bhoroli where a number of anglers from India and overseas participate every year. You will also love angling in Subansiri and Kopili rivers.

River Cruise
Explore the Brahmaputra, one of the four largest rivers in the world, and see the changing topography and lifestyles from as you go downstream or against the flow.

Boat racing
It is a popular traditional sport in Assam, comparable to Kerala's snake-boat racing. Boat races are organized during festivals at places like Hajo, Sualkuchi, Barpet and Guwahati.

River Rafting
Diehard river rafters cannot resist the call of the Brahmaputra and its fiesty tributaries like Manas, Jia-Bhoroli and Kapili.

Mountaineering & trekking
Trekking is great fun in the two picture-perfect hill districts of North Cacher Hills and Karbi Anglong. The jagged hills of Guwahati and the Elephant rocks in Morigaon district are challenging for rock climbers.

Mountain biking
Assam's hilly terrain dares mountain bikers. Several mountain bike and motorbike rallies are organized here every year.

Parasailing
North Guwahati is an ideal location for parasailing other than Rukmini Island.

Hang gliding
The ideal places for hang gliding are the Nilachal hills in Guwahati and the hills around Kaziranga National Park.
