The Deer Park, 595 acres in extent, situated adjacent to Raj Bhavan was originally a part of the Governor's Estate. This is the only National Park situated within a Metropolitan City. It is botanically very interesting as it is the only one of its kind to carry even today a vegetation truly representative of the natural thomy scrub jungle of southem dry zone, interspersed with more than 30 trees species which include is number of oenturies - old gigantic banyan trees. This park with a network of roads, footpaths, nature trails, lakes and ponds, offers good opportunites for viewing wild life.

The main faunal attraction of this park is the rare Indian Antelope popularly known as the Black Buck found nowhere in the world except India. This is alos a sanctuary for the endangered spotted Cat, Jackal, Common Mongoose and the common Palm Civet Cat. The incidence of bird life is also equally interesting Many birds like the King Fisher, Blue Jay. Golden Backed Woodpecker, Faced Malkoha, Shrikes, Koels, Doves, Minivets, Munias, Barkets Parakeets, Grey partridge. Tailor birds, Robins, Drongos, Quails, Beak Paradise, Flycatcher and the Stone Curlew can be seen here.
