Assan Barrage and Bird Watching Centre:
43km from Dehradun, on Dehradun-Chandigarh- Shimla highway is water sports resort Assan Barrage. For details see Water Skiing & Assan Barrage at pg. 105.

14km from Assan Barrage is Dakpathar, an aquatic complex with a swimming pool, located at the foothills of Shivalik hills &C on the the hanks of river Yamuna. Further 6km from Dakpathar enroute Chakrata on the confluence point of river Tons Yamuna, stands still Kaisi famous for Ashoka Pillar Rock Indict. 16 km from Dakpathar across the Yamuna river is Poanta Sahib - the Gurudwara of Guru Govind Singh Ji.

Chakrata:
Once a cantonment town in British India, at an altitude of 2118m, 92 kin from Dchradlin & 73 km from Mussooric, Chakrara is a place blessed with natural Ideality. Virgin forests of (conifers, Rhododendrons & Oaks are best suited for long walks. Alongside these forests, picturesque villages of Jaunsari tribe compliments and in the overpowering Kharamba Peak (3084m) Chakrata has its share of alps too. On its northern slopes is situated Mundali (2776m) where ski ing is possible during Nov.-April. At a distance of 5km north east of Chakrata and at a height of 1395m above sea level, are the mesmerising Tiger Fall. Roaring, gushing water, thickly wooded countryside & beautiful view-all make it an ideal place for an enchanting outing.

Mahasu Devta:
The deity of Mahasu is worshipped in the village of Hanoi, 188 km from Dehradun, on the eastern bank ofTamas (Ions). It is located at an altitude of 1492m. Legend has it that a demon lived here and devoured atleast one man from the nearby villages

everyday. In Mandrath, one of the villages, a man decided to defy this tyrant. He worshipped Shiva who directed Deolari Devi, one of his woman devotees to help the man. On hearing his story she requested her four sons to go to Mandrath. She asked the man to plough his fields. On doing so he discovered four Shiviings-subsequently named Maasu, Pavasi, Vasik & Chalda, after the names of Deolari Devis four sons, whom she sent in search of the demon. In a battle lasting for several days, the demon was killed. The villagers rejoiced and Shiva was worshipped as Mahasu ever after.

Santaula Devi Temple:
About 15km from Dehradun to reach the famous temple of Santaula Devi, one can utilize the bus facilities till Jaitanwala through Garhi Cantt., then It is a 2km drive to Punjabiwala by a jeep or any light vehicle & further 2km trek to the temple. Santaula Devi, alongwith her brother, on realising that they would not able to face the Mughal army abandoned their weapons &c began to pray. A light flickered within moments they both were transformed into stone images. It is within the fort that the shrine was built & Saturday marks the transformation of the Goddess into stone.
