The district headquarter of the Chamoli is situated at an elevation of 1308m amidst beautiful mountain ranges, terrace farms and small lakes, lt is a picturesque place, 10 km from Chamoli with salubrious climate. The ancient temple of Lord Shiva-Shiva Temple attracts thousand of pilgrims throughout the year. Gopeshwar according to legends is where Shiva had reduced Kamadeva (Eros, Cupid) tc ashes. It is also known as Ratishwar Pashvishwar or Gosthal.
