India Adventure : Aero Sports

Aero SportsPara - Gliding And Para - Sailing : Uttranchal

Ever since man first looked up at the sky, he has yearned to glide and soar like an Eagle in the sky. Parasailing and Paragliding, are indeed, experiences that combine the wonder of smooth sailing in the air and the thrill of soaring high above the ground. Once in the air, you experience the ethereal serenity of the sport. It is an experience that is surprisingly, thrilling as well as becalming.

Para-gliding uses 'thermals' as the driving force, and is the closest one can get, to being a bird. In perfect weather conditions you can stay aloft for over three hours and can soar to heights more than 3000 meters.

Garhwal is a Paraglider's and Parasailor's paradise. In the north you have the huge ramparts of the Great Himalayas and in the south are the plains of the Terais. The unique geographical position of Garhwal provides excellent conditions for all grades of Paragliding and Parasailing, from beginners to intermediate and advance.

The hot air coming from the Gangetic Plains and the cold air from the hills creates excellent flying conditions. The climate of the region is also best suited for the purpose. The flying season spans September to December and then March to June.

Para Sailing : Assam

A totally new sport, Para-sailing, has been introduced by Assam Tourism Development Corporation to attract domestic and foreign tourists. The ideal place for Para-sailing near Guwahati is North Guwahati.

Para Gliding : Himachal Pradesh

Riding the warm thermal currents of the air is perhaps the closest man has ever come to sailingthe skies as free as a bird. Almost at will, you dip and wheel high over the hills and valleys.

The bald peak of Billing, above the Buddhist monastery of Bir in Kangra, has been the venue for five national and three international hang-gliding rallies since 1984. The site is perfect for para-gliding too. And this sport is a mix of sky-diving and hang-gliding. A fairly recent sport that is steadily gaining popularity, para-gliding is possible at various places in the state. Places where para-gliding is done regularly are - Bundla Dhar near Bilaspur, in the kullu valley and at Intkali in the Pabbar valley near Rohru in Shimla district.

Himachal Tourism sponsors training programmes and events at various times of the year, in different places. There is an Adventure Sports Hostel at Dharamsala (Kangra) and an Aero Sports Complex at Bir.
