According to Jain tradition Vardhamana Mahavira was born at the lacality called Kundpura in te city of Vaishali in North Bihar. He lived fro thirty yrs as a householders & then renounced the world on the death of his parents. During the first twelve years of his ascetic life. He travelled through various places such as Nalanda, Rajgriha, Chmpa, Mithila & Pawa etc. Then after obtaining amniscience, Mahavira visited during the next period of thirty years of his careers as a Tirthankara a large no. of places including most of the above localities additionally with Vaishali, Vardhmanapura etc. While at Rajgriha during the second Srenika of Magadh are said to have recieved from him. He attained ' Nirvana at Pawa '.

Places associated with the life & preachings of Vardhamana Mahavira & other Jain Tirthankaras are of great reverence to the Jains.
