Kohima Travel Information

Kohima - Capital of NagalandState Capital and hill station is situated at an altitude of 1,444.12 metres above sea-level. It is a beautiful town presenting wide panoramic views.

War Cemetery
A symbolic memorial raised as citation for the supreme sacrifices made by the officers and men during the World War II. Each grave is supported by a bronze plaque with a moving epitaph. There is an inscription inside the Memorial which reads as under :

Museum
The State Museum treasures rare collection of articles of different tribes which speak about the history and traditions of the Nagas.

Sales Emporium
Situated in the heart of the town, the emporium sells a variety of Naga Art and handicraft items.

Cultural Centre
A cultural centre is being constructed at Kohima with central assistance to provide facilities to artisans and to facilitate the holding of cultural shows.

Stone Pulling Festival at KohimaZoological Park
A glimpse of the fauna of Nagaland is found in the Zoological Park at Kohima. A visitor can see some rare species of animals and birds especially the rare Blythe's Tragopan.

Cathedral
The Catholic Cathedral at Aradura Hill is an important landmark at Kohima. It is one of the biggest Cathedral in the whole North East and has a very congenial atomosphere for praying. A place worth seeing for its blend of indigenous architecture.

Kohima Village (Bara Basti)
It is one of the biggest and most populous villages in Asia. As you enter the village a large traditional wooden gate with the scimitar of horns of buffalo head pointing towards the bravery and valour of the Angamis, greets you. Naga stones erected here and there in fron of the houses are memorial symbols of the grand feasts arranged by their great ancestors.
