Religious themes are carved in stone all over Rajasthan. The images are life like, skilfully sculptured in different varieties of stone. In Jaipur white marble is used for carving out statues of gods and goddesses as well as animal and human figures. The soft, pink sandstone, tamara stone, copperhued with green specks and the soft chlorite of Dungarpur, oiled to a rich black are other varieties of stone used for making icons, animal forms, utility items, figures etc.
