New Tehri is a well planned town, A new town sprang up almost overnight on the banks at river Bhagirathi at a height of 1,.550mtrs. above the sea level.

New Tehri has replaced the old Tehri as the district headquarter of Tehri Garhwal. Its' an engineering wonder in the Himalayas. To provide electricity to the far flung areas of the hills, a mojor dam project has been executed here, fighting against the tenacious nature.

Old Tehri
16 kms. From New Tehri, at the confluence of Bhagirathi and Bhilangana rivers. Its importance is due to its strategic location as a transit point to Yamnotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

Surkhanda Devi
The famous mountain top shrine at an altitude of 2,903 mtrs., In the mid of a dense forest. Surkhanda Devi is an incarnation of Goddess Parvati. This temple was originally uilt in 13th century. A beautiful architecture depicts the unique hill-style. Every year, a fair is held in the month of May June, during Ganga Dussera.
