Mananthavady

Valllyurkavu Bhagavathy Temple : (8 km east of Mananthavady) The temple is dedicated to goddess Durga. The two week long festival in February/March is a major event attended l)v hundreds of tribals.

Kuruvadweep : (17 km east of Mananthavady ; 45 km northwest of Sulthan Bathery) This 950 acre, uninhabited island on the eastward bound Kabani River is an ideal picnic spot. The wooded land is home to rare species oi birds, orchids and herbs.

The Glass Temple of Kottamunda (20 km from Kalpetta) : This temple Is located on the slopes of Vellarimala and is dedicated to Parswanatha Swaimy of the Jain faith. The mirrors inside the temple walls reject images of the icons in the temple's sanctum sanctorum.

Begur Wildlie Sanctuary (20 km east of Mananthavady): This sanctuarv is home to manv exotic species of fauna.

Kalpetta

Chembra Peak (14 km west of Kalpetta): At 2100 m above mean sea level, Chembra is the highest peak in Wayanad and is ideal lor trekking.

Banasura Project, Padinjarathara (25 km northeast of Kalpetta) : A mini hydel project with the largest earth dam in India and the second largest in Asia is being built here. A sprawling sanctuary and park with ever Howering trees are major tourist attractions.

Varambetta Mosque (15 km southest of Kalpetta, near Padinjarathara): Dating back 300 years, this is the oldest mosque in Wayanad.

Kanthanpara Waterfalls (8 km east of Meppady; 12 km southeast of Kalpetta) : A beautiful waterfall about 50 m in height.

Sentmal Rock Waterfalls (22 km south of Kalpetta near Chooral Mala) : With a three step wateriall more than 200 m in height, framed by enchanting scenery, this region is ideal for rock climbing.

Jain Temple at Puliyarmala (4 km north of Kalpelta): This old temple Is dedicated to Anantha Natha Swami, one of the most revered Jam saints.

Sulthan Bathery

Edakkal Caves (12 km from Salthan Ralbery): The two Ceves are located at a height o{ 1000 m on Ambukutty Mala near Ambalavayal. The New Stone Age pictorial writings on the walls o{ these natural caves at Edakkal are evidence o{ the civilisation that existed m these regions in prehistoric times. The caves can be accessed only by a I km trekking trail from Edakkal. Morning hours are the best time to visit the caves. Entry is permitted only up to 1700 hrs.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary: Established in 1973, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is contiguous to the protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur oi Karnataka on the northeast and Mudumalai ofTamil Nadu on the southeast. Rich In bio diversity, the sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgin Biosphere Reserve, which has been established with the specihc objective of conserving the biological heritage of the region. The sanctuary is rich in flora and fauna. The management lays emphasis on scientific conservation with due consideration for the general lifestyle of the tribals and others who live in and around the forest. Elephant, spotted deer, bison, tiger, cheetah, wild bear etc. can be spotted here. Elephant rides are arranged by the Forest Department.

Jain Temple: Generally known as Tippu's fort, this temple is situated in Sultan Bathery town. The town gets its name from the historic fact that Tippu used this temple as his battery in the region.

Wayanad Heritage Museum, Ambalavayal: Located near the Ambukuthi hills, this heritage museum displays artefacts and belongings of the various tribes of the land. This is one of the best heritage museums in Kerala.

Vythiri

Lakkidi (55 km east of Kozbikode; 5km south of Vythiri): Lakkidi, the gateway to Wayanaci, is situated 700 m above mean sea level, at the crest of the Thamarasseri Ghat Pass. Loftv peaks, gurgling streams and luxuriant forests add magic to the journey up the winding roads to this hill station.

Pookot Lake (3 m south of Vythiri) : This perennial fresh water lake, nestled among wooded hills, is the only one of its kind in Kerala. Floating facilities, a children's park, a handicrafts and spices emporium and a fresh water aquarium are among the tourist facilities available here.
